Volunteers needed in Raleigh this weekend!!

Heya, all,

There are a couple of Libertarian Party projects going this weekend which could use your help in the Raleigh area:

- We are considering having a table at the Fairgrounds Flea Market on either Saturday or Sunday (or even both days if there are enough people interested!) to collect signatures for ballot access and also get the word out on H88 (Electoral Fairness Act) and the LP. The space costs only $18 (http://www.ncstatefair.org/Temporaryvendorinfo.htm) for the full day which would be provided by the WakeLP (donations welcome, of course). We would need firm commitments from at least one person to cover the afternoon hours (noon-5pm, you can probably leave at 4pm if necessary) in order to go ahead, so please sign up as soon as possible. - Craig Springer is donating a LOT of Libertarian-oriented books to the Party. We need help moving them from Cary to Fuquay-Varina. Fernie Williams is the point man for this project (he'll be storing the books), so please contact him if you can help cart boxes of books (if you have a pickup, that'd be cool, but any help is appreciated). Petitioning for ballot access

Amy G. of the WakeLP collecting signatures for ballot access at the Raleigh Fairgrounds Fleamarket. We are thinking about setting up a table at the Fairground next weekend or the weekend after, to collect sigs and get out the good word.

The fellow in the bottom right frame is Craig Springer, one of the founders of the LPNC. He runs a pet supply business at the Fairgrounds, and we caught him for a signature.

Rally in Raleigh

StopNCAnnexation's Rally in Raleigh pictures online!

A couple of folks from the WakeLP joined Cathy Heath and the other fine folks from StopNCAnnexation in their second annual 'counter-protest' to the NC League of Municpalities' Porkfest. The NCLM is a lobby group of government and by government and for government, and - naturally - they favor forced annexation. They were there to feed the legislators with their annual pork-and-chicken BBQ.


So we stood outside the General Assembly buildings talking to legislators and NCLM members and the press and pretty much anyone who would listen about the evil of forced annexation.


Some of the legislators were on our side, but the reaction from most of the League yay-hoos was pretty much what you'd expect. This picture below shows a Leaguer telling Andy Steude of the WakeLP "I am in favor of Forced Annexation". Well!

[One fellow - a town manager or somesuch animal - told us that we needed taxes to provide 'services' such as regulating the food market. No kidding. This guy told us a with a straight face that we needed to be taxed to keep food prices down. Hello? Earth to politician: taxation makes things MORE expensive, not less!]

Live from tonight's meeting

Bobby Emory updates us on the "Texas Project" - the Committee to Restore Freedom to Loving.

We ade plans tonight to petition at the Fairgrounds Flea Market next Saturday (June 10) - let me know if you'd like to come along!

Uncle Fernie Wants YOU ...

... to attend our meeting tonight :) We meet at Tir Na Nog on Moore Square in downtown Raleigh every Thursday. We gather in the back room from 6:30-7ish, then we have dinner, drinks, and lots of conversation in generally pretty informal meetings.

Tonight, as the first Thursday of the month, we will be discussing some business such as ballot access and possible support for a NC version of TABOR (Taypayer's Bill of Rights).
