Raleigh, June 1, 2017—The chair of the Libertarian Party of North Carolina, Brian Irving, has submitted three nominees for the Wake County Board of Elections to the North Carolina State Board of Elections (SBE), the WakeLP announced today. Jeff Harrod and Amy Howard, both of Raleigh, are registered Libertarians, and Jon Byers, also of Raleigh, is registered as independent.

“Thirty-five percent of all registered voters in Wake County are independent,” stated WakeLP chair David Ulmer. “But when’s the last time an independent voter was appointed to serve on the Wake County Board of Elections? I can’t say when, or even if, but I do know it hasn’t happened yet this century. The NCGOP and NCDems don’t even bother to nominate independents, let alone appoint any.” 

Raleigh, NC March 2, 2017—The Wake County Libertarian Party held their annual convention at the Oak & Dagger Public House last night and elected David Ulmer as chair for the 2017-19 term of office.

“If I get the chair position, we will be active. You will be led,” stated Ulmer in accepting his nomination. “I will do something. You will disagree with some of it, and you will not be happy with me sometimes, but it is because there is a lot of doing going on. I know I come at people like a sledgehammer sometimes, but again, I’m trying to get something done. I am excited about this; I want to achieve things; I want to set goals; I want to get out and reach people…. You know if you want something done, I will do it. So that’s my pitch, that is me.”

The Wake County Libertarian Party announced today their decision to move the site of their weekly Wednesday meetups to the three-month-old Oak & Dagger Public House at Seaboard Station in Raleigh.

“We’ve been actively looking for a new ‘unofficial HQ’ for several months,” stated WakeLP Chair Brian Lewis. “We wanted a place flexible enough to host both our informal meetups and special events when we have a guest speaker, and we wanted to be closer to downtown, but also have convenient parking. And we needed a place that could accommodate our growth, as average attendance at our meetups was up 75% in 2016. Oak & Dagger checks all those boxes.”
